“Getting ready for this, I wondered about a lot of things, I wondered what it would be like to perform for 70’000 people. I wondered what would happen if I invited the most amazing artists in the world to come out with me and perform on my stage — would they do it? This is ‘The 1989 World Tour’.” — Taylor Swift
In 2014, Taylor released her fifth studio album, “1989“. It was a massive commercial success, debuting atop the Billboard 200, retaining the position for eleven non-consecutive weeks, and becoming only the fifth album in history to spend its first year in the Top 10 of the chart and topping the 2015 Year-End Chart.
In 2015, Taylor embarked on her fourth headlining concert tour, “The 1989 World Tour”. The tour was commercially successful, grossing over $250 million. The Sydney stop of the tour was attended by 76,000 fans, one of Taylor’s most attended concerts to date. On December 13, 2015, Taylor announced she would release a live album monitoring the aforementioned show exclusively via Apple Music. The album and concert film was released on December 20, 2015.
Apart from Taylor’s performance, the film also includes exclusive clips, never-seen-before interviews and behind-the-scenes footage of the production of the tour. Additionally, snippets of Taylor performing with fellow celebrities such as Lorde, Mick Jagger and The Weeknd at other venues were also included.
Clips from the film were later compiled for the music video for the seventh and final single from the album, “New Romantics“.
