Using the word as a metaphor for falling in love, she explores the tension between knowing a relationship could end in heartbreak and being unable to resist the attraction anyway. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFollowing Speak Now<\/em><\/a> (2010), Taylor set out to make RED<\/em> more musically adventurous than her first three albums, deliberately working with producers and songwriters outside her established Nashville circle. One of those collaborators was Dan Wilson, best known as the frontman of Semisonic and as a Grammy-winning songwriter whose credits included Adele\u2019s 21<\/em> and the Chicks\u2019 \u201cNot Ready to Make Nice.\u201d In April 2012, Taylor and Wilson met in Los Angeles for two consecutive writing days. On the first day, they wrote “Treacherous,” while \u201cCome Back…Be Here<\/a>\u201d followed the next day. Taylor arrived with a simple idea: she wanted to write a song around the word \u201ctreacherous.\u201d It came together remarkably quickly. \n\t\t\t\t\u00abWith Taylor, we had been kind of circling around, very much aware of each other\u2019s work for a while. We figured out these two days to work together and she came to my studio super excited and said, 'I had an idea in the car.' And she sang me the first three or four lines of it and said, 'I want to call it \u2018Treacherous\u2019 and maybe the chorus can go like this.' And we were writing the song in ten minutes and she was just so full of excitement.\u00bb\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWith the writing complete, Taylor asked Wilson to produce the track as well. \u201cTreacherous\u201d was recorded at Ballroom West in Los Angeles, Instrument Landing in Minneapolis and Marlay Studios in North Hollywood, with mixing handled by Manny Marroquin at Larrabee Studios. Wilson ultimately kept Taylor\u2019s original vocal from the Los Angeles demo, impressed by the clarity and intensity of her performance: “An interesting quality, objectively speaking, was how on fire she was, the clarity she had. She was so open and excited about the things I would add. She works at a very high level of positivity, and that is rare. I followed my own joy [in producing the tracks]. We both had such similar visions of what the songs should sound like.\u201d\n

\nThe finished song became the third track on RED<\/em>, released on October 22, 2012. Rather than being issued as a single, it was released as part of the album and also appeared in its original demo form as the twentieth track on the deluxe edition, giving listeners the unusual opportunity to hear the song both as the intimate recording Taylor and Wilson first created and as the fuller studio production that ultimately made the album.\n

\nBefore the album was released, Taylor gave fans an early glimpse of the song during a special acoustic performance recorded on August 13, 2012, the same day she announced RED<\/em> during a fan web chat. \u201cTreacherous\u201d was performed alongside \u201cWe Are Never Ever Getting Back Together<\/a>\u201d and \u201c22<\/a>,\u201d making it one of the first new songs from the album that fans heard in full.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
