Similarly, it debuted at No. 68 on the U.S. <em>Billboard Hot 100<\/em> dated December 26, 2020, simultaneously with the each of the album\u2019s other tracks. It opened at No. 42 on the<em> Rolling Stone Top 100<\/em>, with 91,000 units sold and 11 million streams in its first week, and landed at No. 14 on the <em>Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs<\/em> chart, where it spent a total of 10 weeks. Jason Lipshutz of <em>Billboard<\/em> chose the song as the best on <em>evermore<\/em> and stated that the song materializes Taylor\u2019s ability to create \u201cdeceptively simple\u201d music that \u201cis bursting with layers and moving pieces\u201d. He admired the song\u2019s \u201cdense but never overcrowded\u201d instrumentation and its \u201ckicky post-chorus vocal hook\u201d. Reviewers of <em>Insider<\/em> concluded that \u201clong story short\u201d is \u201cthe closest Swift gets to revisiting her pop star persona\u201d; Callie Ahlgrim said that it is \u201cglossier\u201d compared to its fellow tracks, hybridizing the textures of <a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/albums\/1989-album\/\"><em>1989<\/em><\/a> (2014) and <em>folklore<\/em>, and functions as a \u201crefreshing change of pace\u201d inside <em>evermore<\/em>, whereas Courteney Larocca felt that it is a \u201c<a
