The original album was Taylor\u2019s first \u201cofficial pop\u201d album after she had marketed her first four albums to country radio, and it transformed her artistry and image from country to pop. As with her other re-recorded projects, <em>1989 (Taylor\u2019s Version)<\/em> features five newly-recorded \u201cFrom the Vault\u201d tracks that she had written but left out of the original track listing. \u201cSay Don\u2019t Go\u201d is one of the vault tracks Taylor had written in 2013-2014 but excluded from the tracklist of <em>1989<\/em>. She was the first songwriter to have seven songs recorded by different artists charting on the <em>Billboard Hot 100 <\/em>at the same time.\n<br><br>\nDiane and Taylor wrote one song together, which is \u201cSay Don\u2019t Go\u201d, and did it \u201cfrom scratch\u201d in December 2013. Warren recalled in a Rolling Stone interview that she was impressed with Taylor for the specificity in her songwriting and how eager she was to show the track to her audience. Several days later on New Year\u2019s Day in 2014, Taylor recorded and played an acoustic guitar for the demo of \u201cSay Don\u2019t Go\u201d at Warren\u2019s office. Rumors that Taylor and Diane had met up for a writing session started swirling as early as February 2014, when Taylor was in the midst of creating <em>1989<\/em>. As with her other re-recorded projects, 1989 (Taylor\u2019s Version) features five newly-recorded \u201cFrom the Vault\u201d tracks that she had written but left out of the original track listing. \u201cSay Don\u2019t Go\u201d is one of the vault tracks Taylor had written in 2013-2014 but excluded from the tracklist of 1989. Before the album\u2019s release, Taylor sent the track to Warren via email and she was amazed by it: \u201cOh my God, this is fucking awesome [\u2026] I hope they release this as a single because I think it\u2019s a fucking hit\u201d. Collaboration Diane Warren is a very successful songwriter, well-known for writing or co-writing songs including \u201cUn-Break My Heart\u201d by Toni Braxton, \u201cBecause You Loved Me\u201d by C\u00e9line Dion, \u201cI Don\u2019t Wanna Miss A Thing\u201d by Aerosmith, or \u201cIf I Could Turn Back Time\u201d by Cher. She was the first songwriter to have seven songs recorded by different artists charting on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. Diane and Taylor wrote one song together, which is \u201cSay Don\u2019t Go\u201d, and did it \u201cfrom scratch\u201d in December 2013. Warren recalled in a Rolling Stone interview that she was impressed with Taylor for the specificity in her songwriting and how eager she was to show the track to her audience. Several days later on New Year\u2019s Day in 2014, Taylor recorded and played an acoustic guitar for the demo of \u201cSay Don\u2019t Go\u201d at Warren\u2019s office. Rumors that Taylor and Diane had met up for a writing session started swirling as early as February 2014, when Taylor was in the midst of creating 1989. Back then, Diane said: \u00abI know [Taylor] likes it, so hopefully it will see the light of day. I know she really likes the song.
