She has described the album as a \u201clove letter to love itself.\u201d It explores the \u201cfull spectrum of love\u201d, inspired by the connections she felt with her fans during her \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/tours\/reputation-stadium-tour\/\">reputation Stadium Tour<\/a>\u201d (2018). The track list of <em>Lover<\/em> consists of 18 songs, of which three were solely written by Taylor: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/albums\/lover-album\/lover-songs\/lover-song\/\">Lover<\/a>\u201c, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/albums\/lover-album\/lover-songs\/cornelia-street\/\">Cornelia Street<\/a>\u201c, and \u201cDaylight\u201d. Taylor closed a 2019 piece for <em>ELLE Magazine<\/em> writing: \u201cI\u2019ve come to a realization that I need to be able to forgive myself for making the wrong choice, trusting the wrong person, or figuratively falling on my face in front of everyone. Step into the daylight and let it go.\u201d At the <em>iHeartRadio<\/em> \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/wiki\/secret-sessions\/\">Lover Secret Session<\/a>\u201c, she explained the meaning of the song by reflecting on her previous album, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/albums\/reputation-album\/\">reputation<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(2017):\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d18d3e3 elementor-blockquote--align-left elementor-blockquote--skin-border elementor-widget elementor-widget-blockquote\" data-id=\"d18d3e3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"blockquote.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote class=\"elementor-blockquote\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-blockquote__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\u00ab<i>reputation<\/i> for me, aesthetically and thematically, felt like a very long night of storms and volcanic eruptions, blood, hurricanes, hale, tornadoes, endless fire, an asteroid hit. It felt like trying to figure out what\u2019s what throughout all of that. I did gain an insight that I didn\u2019t have before, which was: even though all this stuff has happened and at times you feel really down about the past, letting it go is a really important step, even if you never fully get there. Reminding yourself to let things go as they present themselves, even if you can\u2019t seem to let them go yet, is a helpful exercise. And realizing that you can find love and friendships in literally the worst times in your life. I thought it might be a little bit too sentimental. I was kind of in my head referring to the album as <i>Daylight<\/i> for a while. The concert was filmed and later aired as a TV special on <em>ABC<\/em> on May 17, 2020. The performance of \u201cDaylight\u201d was released for digital download the following day, on May 18, 2020. She also performed the song during her <em>SiriusXM<\/em> \u201cHits1\u201d set in August 2019.\n<br><br>\nTaylor chose \u201cDaylight\u201d as the second surprise song for her show on June 24, 2023, in Minneapolis, while on her \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/tours\/taylor-swift-the-eras-tour\/\">The Eras Tour<\/a>\u201d (2023-2024). She performed it again, this time on acoustic guitar, on February 18, 2024, during her last \u201cEras Tour\u201d show in Melbourne. It was a mash-up with another <em><a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/albums\/red-album\/\">RED<\/a><\/em> song, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/albums\/red-album\/red-songs\/come-back-be-here\/\">Come Back\u2026Be Here<\/a>\u201d (2012).
