It was released on April 9, 2021, and features all tracks of <em>Fearless<\/em> re-recorded with fresh vocals from Taylor, including six bonus tracks that were scrapped from the 2008 version. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e56ab06 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e56ab06\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tInitially released in 2008, Taylor\u2019s breakout second record <em>Fearless<\/em> was the one that catapulted her to the stratospheric levels of success she retains today. Receiving largely positive reviews and massive commercial acclaim, it has sold over 12 million copies internationally and it won a 20-year-old Taylor her first <em>Grammy<\/em> for \u201cAlbum of the Year\u201d in 2010. When she announced the re-recording, she wrote:\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8ddce49 elementor-blockquote--align-left elementor-blockquote--skin-border elementor-widget elementor-widget-blockquote\" data-id=\"8ddce49\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"blockquote.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote class=\"elementor-blockquote\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-blockquote__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\u00abWhen I think back on the <i>Fearless <\/i>album and all that [the fans] turned it into, a completely involuntary smile creeps across my face. This was the musical era in which so many inside jokes were created between us, so many hugs exchanged and hands touched, so many unbreakable bonds formed [...] <i>Fearless <\/i>was an album full of magic and curiosity, and the bliss and devastation of youth. There really was no precedent for what Taylor was doing. No artist in their prime, let alone one of the best-selling singers of the century \u2014 fresh off her two most critically acclaimed albums yet in 2020\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/albums\/folklore-album\/\">folklore<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/albums\/evermore\/\">evermore<\/a><\/em>\u00a0\u2014 had ever undertaken the full re-recording of a half-dozen enormously successful LPs for sake of owning her music outright. Yet no mainstream star had been more vocal about artists\u2019 rights than Taylor. This bold step was a first for the music industry and came following several sales of Taylor\u2019s back catalogue.<\/span>\n<br><br>\nThe first came in 2019, when talent manager Scooter Braun (who reps artists like Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber), made a $300 million acquisition of Taylor\u2019s former label <a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/wiki\/big-machine-records\/\">Big Machine Label Group<\/a>, a sale that included the recorded masters of Taylor\u2019s early albums. At the time Taylor shared a piece on <em>Tumblr<\/em> that read: \u201cFor years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and \u2018earn\u2019 one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in.\u201d\n<br><br>\nThis was followed in late 2020 by another sale by private equity company Shamrock Holdings. The labor involved in this level of meticulous replication is difficult to fathom. The arrangements, this time performed mostly by Taylor\u2019s longtime <a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/wiki\/band\/\">touring band \u201cThe Agency\u201d<\/a> as opposed to the original session musicians, are near-perfect facsimiles of the first cuts, down to the last twang. Taylor never cringes away from her younger self. Instead, she revisits the songs with kindness and affection, celebrating the success of her teenage releases. If I could improve upon it I did. I really did want this to be very true to what I initially thought of and what I had initially written \u2013 but better. Nathan Chapman, who did handle the original mixes, did not return. That didn\u2019t seem to matter. Throughout the whole album, banjos are crisper, guitars are fuller, drums are heavier, and Taylor\u2019s strong 31-year-old voice leads the music. The changes made to beloved tracks like \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/albums\/fearless-album\/fearless-songs\/you-belong-with-me\/\">You Belong With Me<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/taylorswiftswitzerland.ch\/index.php\/albums\/fearless-album\/fearless-songs\/love-story\/\">Love Story<\/a>\u201d simply made them shinier. Clearly taking care to not step over her 19-year-old self, all the changes feel totally natural, like they should\u2019ve been that way to start with. Overall, you can hear the drive. When she announced the re-recording, she wrote: \u00abWhen I think back on the Fearless album and all that [the fans] turned it into, a completely involuntary smile creeps across my face. This was the musical era in which so many inside jokes were created between us, so many hugs exchanged and hands touched, so many unbreakable bonds formed [\u2026] Fearless was an album full of magic and curiosity, and the bliss and devastation of youth.
