Released on August 23, 2019, the song was co-written by Taylor, Jack Antonoff, Sounwave and Cautious Clay. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTaylor began working on Lover <\/em>during a week in New York in July 2018 while still on the \u201creputation Stadium Tour<\/a>,\u201d before the album\u2019s main recording sessions began after the tour concluded that November. “London Boy” emerged during the making of an album Taylor approached from a markedly different creative place than its predecessor, reputation <\/a><\/em>(2017). In an interview with Vogue <\/em>in 2019, she described Lover <\/em>as a \u201cnew beginning\u201d and a \u201clove letter to love, in all of its maddening, passionate, exciting, enchanting, horrific, tragic, wonderful glory,\u201d while recalling that she wrote from an \u201copen, free, romantic, whimsical place.\u201d In a radio interview that year, she added:\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cLondon Boy\u201d was written by Taylor, Jack Antonoff and Sounwave, with Antonoff and Taylor serving as producers and Sounwave as co-producer. The track also features an interpolation of \u201cCold War,\u201d a 2018 song by R&B musician Cautious Clay, who consequently received a songwriting credit. In June 2019, while Clay was touring in Bergen, Norway, Taylor\u2019s team contacted him to ask permission to incorporate the rhythm of his song. He agreed, later telling Rolling Stone<\/em> that it felt \u201cpretty surreal\u201d that Taylor considered the interpolation appropriate for her own track.\n

\nThe song also features a spoken-word introduction by British actor Idris Elba, alongside a contribution from comedian and television host James Corden. Taylor explained during a livestream ahead of the album\u2019s release that Elba\u2019s voice was included because he speaks about London at the beginning of the track. She also recalled playing the song for fashion designer Stella McCartney<\/a> after referencing her in the lyrics; the meeting helped lead to their Lover <\/em>era<\/a> merchandise collaboration.\n
