Kamilah Marshall was born on February 22. She was raised in Orange County, California and grew up with the sound of Motown and jazz. Her mom loved Aretha Franklin, Patti Smith, and the Pointer Sisters. Her dad played Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Mix it all together with Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and a love for country music.
Kamilah graduated high school early to start a tour with the show “Heart Strings” that raise money and awareness for AIDS victims. She also shared the stage with Nell Carter, Salt N’ Pepa, and Patti LuPone.

Since 2003, Kamilah has been one of the Staggering Harlettes, singing backup for Bette Midler, in “The Kiss My Brass World Tour” and “The Showgirl Must Go On” at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. Her Broadway credits include RENT, Disney’s The Lion King and the Original Cast of Hairspray The Musical and reprised her role as a Dynamite in HAIRSPRAY LIVE on NBC.

Since 2012, Kamilah has been part of The Starlights, Taylor’s backup singers. She has joined Taylor on many live performances, including “The RED Tour” (2012-2013), “The 1989 World Tour” (2015), the “reputation Stadium Tour” (2018) and “The Eras Tour” (2023).

Kamilah’s debut CD GYPSY MOONSHINE is available now. A Blues-y, country sound with soulful overtones, she writes and sings from the depths of her wild-hearted spirit.
