Background and Release

The album was announced on September 21, 2011 via Taylor’s official website, along with the album cover. The DVD and Blu-ray releases feature all seventeen performances from the North American leg of the “Speak Now World Tour”, as well as bonus content. The CD has over seventy-five minutes of music as well as select live performances of songs from the Speak Now (2010) album. The combo was released on November 21, 2011. When asked by Billboard why it was important to document this tour, Taylor said:

«I really wanted to make a DVD of this show because I felt this is a year of my life that I’m going to want to remember. Every single night I stand on that stage and it feels like it’s the best crowd of the tour every night. They are so loud and emotional and so passionate, and these crowds that we’ve played for this year have been unlike any crowd we’ve played for on any other tour, and this show has been different than anything we’ve ever put on. I want to look back on this years from now and show it to my kids and my grandkids.»

Special Editions

A Target exclusive of the live album contains the bonus performances of the songs “Ours“, “Nashville” and “Sweet Escape”, as well as the behind the scene making of the music video for “Mean“. Many of the songs and performances were captured from various legs around the world of the tour. The Brazilian release of the album contains a previously unreleased version of the song “Long Live” featuring new verses in Portuguese composed and sung by singer Paula Fernandes, that peaked at No. 5 on the Brazilian Hot 100.

Critical Reception

Matt Bjorke of Roughstock stated that Taylor “has shown a lot of growth through the years and takes her live show seriously so it’s good to hear this live album sound nearly as good as her records do.” James Monger of AllMusic rated the album three out of five stars and stated that the performances on the DVD were “an elaborate affair that utilized dancers, aerialists, numerous costume changes, and a mammoth, multi-stage setup that more closely resembled a high-profile Broadway musical than it did a country music concert.”

Commercial Performance

The album debuted at No. 11 on the US Billboard 200 chart with 77,000 sold. It also debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart on the same week. To date, the album has sold 346,000 copies in the US. As of July 2019, the album has sold 368’000 copies in the US.
